A "must" for bloggers everywhere!

Blog Wonderful by Dana Fox was a book I read to help me enhance my blog and make it more appealing for you, the reader. When I first started reading it, I was a little worried. This is because in the intro it says that it focuses on the Blogger platform and only touches on the WordPress platform a bit. I am a WordPress blogger and maintain three different WordPress sites so I began to wonder if reading this book was even worth it.

My worries were quickly pushed aside when I started reading and realized that the use cases on the different blogging platforms are similar and would therefore not cause me any trouble applying it to the WordPress platform. At that moment I was happy I didn’t give up on the book and ended up reading it from cover to cover. I learned many new things throughout, such as how to use social media effectively, how to enhance posts and engage readers, and even how to make “blogger friends”.

The second I finished reading; I rushed over to my laptop and logged onto my blog. I quickly installed new plugins recommended by Fox herself, fixed a couple of the mistakes I had been making while blogging, and commented on some other blogs – something I was unsure how to do correctly prior to reading this book.

Overall, this book helped me greatly and was just the thing I needed to help me start the 2014-year with a fresh start on blogging. This book is a must-read for any blogger, no matter what your platform is. It will change the way you blog in a positive way.

Practical Tips For A Thriving Blog!

About the middle of last year (2012), I got it in my head that I wanted to do a big ol' revamp in order to really take this blog to the next level. When I looked at the pricing, however, I realized I just didn't have the money to do a large undertaking. I was a little disappointed, but I kept on plugging away, focusing on what I could do. Randomly, I read a blurb about Dana Fox, the woman behind The Wonder Forest. She had written a book, Blog Wonderful, about the astronomical growth she experienced during her first year of blogging. She literally took notes during that time and documented what worked and what did not. It took me all of two minutes to download it onto my iPad, and another day or so to devour it. Not only does she give great information on finding your voice and audience, but also practical tips on how to do things like link-ups, or how to download your entire blog onto your computer directly from Blogger. Did you know that was possible? No? Neither did I. As an added bonus, she specifically talks about using the Blogger platform, making it a snap for newbies like me to apply her tips. It is the most helpful blogging book I've read (and I've read a few!), and I cannot recommend it enough!

Buy/Read This BEFORE You Start Your Blog!

This would have been great in the initial setup/start up phase. Even though I'm still a newbie with a year in, I was beyond much of this. However, in my tiny bits of experience I think what Dana shared was great, smart, and many things I wish I had done out of the gates. She focuses on a few blogging platforms and would have liked some more help with Wordpress than she was able to offer. I enjoyed the easy read nonetheless, and I'd recommend it to someone wanting to get going!

A very nice instructive book, but a missed oppurtunity.

If I had never read an instructive tome on drawing comics before, I'm sure I would find this very impressive. Being that there are several out there already, this feels like a missed oppurtunity.
First of all, the presentation is rather lackluster. For a medium as dynamic as comic books I believe the design of the book could have been a bit more interesting. It's all fairly standard and not all thay dynamic.
Of course the content is what counts the most, and there is a lot of worthy elements presented here. The problem is most of it has already been presented in other books, like the excellent How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way. The beginning section on the history of comics is the exception. It is both interesting and useful and hasn't been done in this paticular type of book before to my knowledge. The dissapointing part is that it would have been very interesting to see how a master like Kubert creates his illustrations. We are given tantalizing tidbits, but it could have been much meatier. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the final section. We are treated to the original script for a short lived character called Ragman. We get to see the rough layouts and there are interesting, but many of the pages are reproduced at a greatly reduced size. It would have been great to see some more comments as to WHY Kubert made some of the storytelling choices he did and reproducing the actual, final pages of the story seems like a bit of a no-brainer. Alas, neither of these things are done.
Definitely buy this book if you are interested in a career in comic books. It provides a solid foundation, but it is a far cry from the seminal, complete book for aspiring comic book artists we have been waiting for.

a GREAT book on this subject

This is one of the best books on comic style art that I've ever read. Like many people, I taught myself to draw reading comic books. I do other types of art now, but sometimes I find the need to return to my roots, and I couldn't have picked a better book. If nothing else, this is a lot of fun! The only shortcoming of this book is that it covers a lot, but doesn't go into detail on everything.

I thought this book was great and helped me a great deal but, after reading other books like this it doesnt have the style and ideas that artists use today.The books ideas are rather boring and you will lose intrest if you dont like his ideas for characters. Though if you do finish this book as I have you willbe amazed at how much this book helps your drawing ability.

Great read!

Jeffrey Archer is a master story teller. I took this book away on holiday for light reading on my kindle! I enjoyed each of the stories and then wished that I had downloaded more! Mr Archer always has a twist in his tales, not easily spotted or detected. Great holiday read to relax with. Love his sense of humour. I am mainly writing this review to say I find no typos or mistakes with this kindle version by Hodder's childrens books. I know that there are some Enid Blyton books with kindle edition by amazon digital, those are the ones with the problems with typos etc. I know because I bought one of those first. so before buying please scroll down and see who the publisher is. Even Hodder has 2 editions available on kindle, 2010 and 2014, I am buying the 2010 because they are a little cheaper, and I find no typos, when they are of the same price I am buying the 2014 version.

A fine story, but numerous scanning errors

My daughter and I have been working our way through all the Enid Blyton books. She loves them, but the actual text itself is fairly poor quality. It was obviously scanned in from the paper books, and no-one has bothered to go through and correct all the typos introduced in the process. So, for example, the dog Timmy ends up as "Jimmy" for pages at a time.
