There's more hojojutsu in tying your sneakers than there is in this book.

Let's be honest and very clear: This Book Does Not Contain Any Hojojutsu. If that's what you're looking for to round out your Koryu or Shinobi training, go elsewhere. Hojojutsu is a very structured art, one of the 18 Bugei Ju-Happan methods that traditional Japanese warriors had to learn during Tokugawa times. A proper presentation of the art would have to include its History, Rope Lengths, Types, and Terminology, Knots, Loops, and Hitches, Tying Sequence, and the differences in tying men or women. I was taught Ittatsu-ryu hojojutsu by Tetsuya Higuchi and Shidare Yanagi-ryu hojojutsu by Don Angier. What Allen has written here is one of the commonly-found backyard "martial arts," one developed, no doubt, by experimenting with his students. If he wants to put that in book form, that's fine, but call it Obi-waza or something equally silly and appropriate -- and sell it for what it's worth, not $23. That kind of behavior is not countenanced in the practice of Budo!

Misleading title, bad photography, and dubious "techniques".

First and foremost, I am giving this book a single star because it simply doesn't depict hojojutsu / torinawajutsu. I have a copy of Fujito Seiko's "Zukai Torinawajutsu" (the definitive text on the subject), and have studied several other well regarded books on hojojutsu, all of which share two inconvenient traits: they are prohibitively expensive (Fujito-san's book is around $300 USD), and they are all written in Japanese. I purchased this because it appeared to be a new, English language book on what is a very rare and difficult to research martial art, only to find that the author had failed to include even a *single* restraint tie, and had opted to illustrate eleven capture techniques that are either unfaithful interpretations or completely non-traditional.

Again, I know the source material fairly well; I only purchased the book to have something other than instruction DVDs from Don Angiers in English. I won't even be placing this on the shelf next to my actual hojojutsu books, because it simply doesn't belong.

All of the techniques are illustrated using a black gi belt in a grainy, black and white photo, and the author is wearing black pants, which makes the belt difficult to see. The history and background information provided is something you could glean from Wikipedia, and the techniques themselves are simple trapping mechanics using a belt, none of which culminate in an actual *tie*, which is the entire point of the art.

About the Author
Kathy Cybele was raised in an Irish household where her mother filled her days with fairytales, Brownies (both the chocolate and the small mischievous kind) and magick. Thus, when Kathy found the path of Witchcraft in 1988, she knew she had come home. In 1992 Kathy joined a Celtic/Gardnerian coven, received her degrees, and was elevated to the rank of elder and High Priestess. Kathy founded and led The Circle of the Sacred Meadow from 1998 – 2010. Kathy still enjoys teaching in local venues and has taught over 200 classes.

Great resource to focus your will and manifest your intent in the Universe.

I purchased the book at a book signing and am excited to give an independent review and recommend this book. This is an excellent primer on prosperity magic, but can also be used for all other types of magical spells to manifest good intent in the universe.

Cybele's writing style is very easy to read. The print and design of the book flows from one paragraph to the next making it easy to follow and absorb the information she presents. She clearly explains the process and meanings of terms either in the chapter - or in the appendices at the end of the book. There she also includes many great charts and tables with explanations of magical references used in the work.

She presents the material in a clear and logical progression. The steps to successful magic were presented through chapters related to tending a crop. Each step includes tools and practices to help the querant develop meditation and other practices to work the magic.

She includes moon phase, color, candle, oil, incense, number charts, herbs, and resins. She provides basic recipes, explanations, meditation scripts, and the steps to start magical working for prosperity and other well intentioned wishes.

This isn't a "chant a poem and light a candle then your wishes come true" book. Cybele provides exercises, suggests meditation, and journaling for several months to establish the mindset and spirititual habits to prepare for effective metaphysical workings. It takes time to gain the confidence, habits and familiarity with how to direct and clarify your intent for specific and successful results.

The text is written in a style that makes you think you are sitting with her and she is speaking directly to you. You can "hear" encouragement in the words she writes and feel as if you have a teacher along side you through the entire process. "Sometimes a spell can be as simple as focusing our will and intent and then writing what you want onto a colored piece of paper to be carried with you," she writes in part III: Sowing the Seeds of your Prosperity.

This is an excellent book for any who wish to have effective and empowering experiences with manifesting their intent. Great for those just starting out on the path of magic work and a great source to remember the basics.

Getting there slowly

Slowly but surley i am facing my fears one a time. I know the wor of God said he has not given us a spirit of fear ,but of power and of love and a sound mind. Freedom form fear is helping come to grips with thoes little things that is trying to keep me from being bold as a lion. The word of God says perfect love cast away all fear.

This book was sent to my kindle by a friend and my God, my God, reading this book has made me to look fear in the face and say boldly, Fear you have no place in my life, go back to the pit of hell where you belongs. Fear is not of God but Faith is. Thank you very much Mr. Copeland, I really enjoy reading it.

Less than the best

I bought two copies of Brian Wildsmith's The Bremen Town Musicians for my granddaughters. I love Wildsmith's books, but this is the first time I've been disappointed by one. The Bremen Town Musicians was advertised as a new book on Amazon, but it is a reprint. That's one problem, but in my mind a minor one. The major problem is the quality of the reproduction. I don't know why they are this way, but the lines look blurry and the colors, normally bright and clean in a Wildsmith book, are often murky. Not very pleased with this purchase.

But when they need a place to spend the night and something to eat, what will they do? And will they ever make it to Bremen?
This well-known Brothers Grimm fairy tale is here retold and illustrated by Brian Wildsmith, who was raised in a small mining village in northern England where, he says, "Everything was gray. There wasn't any color. It was all up to my imagination. I had to draw in my head." Since then, he has illustrated more than 200 picture books, many of which he wrote himself. In 1962 his ABC was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal, Britain's equivalent to the Caldecott Medal, and in 1971 The Owl and the Woodpecker was a runner up. The Brian Wildsmith Museum was established in 1994 at Izukogen, south of Tokyo, Japan. A Real Treasure EVERY child must have.

I should have known that this would be a wonderful book, given it's illustrated by Brian Wildsmith! Anyway, I was Thrilled when I opened the package...as were my kids when they saw, as well, The drawings are so poignant! One can point out the signs of being older on the creatures. So much to talk about, as well as a delightful story no child should grow up without knowing. It has been 70 plus years since I mety the story, and It still brings me joy. Beautiful rendition!

A Real Roadmap to Follow

Let me first say that I have read quite a few books on investing and retirement planning and have a good point of reference. I am always looking for something new and different that I can learn from. The author objectively covered the common issues that exist true to form without going overboard or over doing the dramatics as I have seen in other publications. Often many of these books or "guides" spend 95% of the book discussing all the terrible things facing retirees (longevity, inflation, economy, etc.) and about 5% telling you what to do about it which generally consists of information that seems to have been thrown in at the last second so you are still wondering what to do after reading from cover to cover. The thing I liked about this book which set it apart from others was the amount of pages and information given to actually explaining not only what to do to solve the main issues but more importantly how to do it. It was laid out very precise and clear without a lot of fluff which I like. Usually I am skimming through a lot of pages that go overboard explaining from a broad standpoint but this was a very thought out, detailed, and effective strategy presented. You can tell the author knows what he is talking about and has done this in real life with success based on examples given. I also have to admit that I learned a few new things that I had not read anywhere else or knew about up to this point. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a laid out road map on what issues to address and specifically how to go about fixing them with real world success.

Probably not worth your dime

This guy has radio show that originates in my area. Both the radio show and the book are really come-ons to meet to develop a financial plan. I bothers me that he never cites any performance data, even generically. He says that he is a fiduciary, but most of his advice recommends insurance products. I'm not saying that his approach is wrong. The only rationale approach to financial planning is to identify your goals, then find the right "tools" to achieve them. He almost does that in the book - but not quite.

As retirement loomed for my wife and me, advice seemed to be everywhere; how to invest, where to invest, which company to use. What we learned is that selecting a fiduciary is much more about the philosophy of investing than it is about the mechanics. Robert Harwood's book is a clear guide to a philosophy that focuses on your goals rather than an investment firm's interests. It offers a clear explanation of the options available for a successful investment plan. It is a must read, and all of the profits are donated to charity. Buy it and read it.

Is just very basic chords. II never saw a 7th chord, which he used often. This is just a scan of a book too- you cannot jump to somewhere from the contents and you cannot highlight or even bookmark pages.

I bought this with the notion that I could learn to play Leadbelly on my guitar. There are some simple chord progressions that go with the lyrics, but I think it is for the vocal melody.
